FLEMINGTON
TRAINING
In July of 2025, Tony and Calvin McEvoy acquired boxes at the sought-after Flemington precinct. For Tony and Calvin, Flemington was never meant to replace Ballarat, it complements it.

Flemington now adds the missing metropolitan dimension, giving horses access to a genuinely different environment and routine. It's this variety the McEvoys believe stimulates development and extends the longevity of each horse's preparation. Two bases working as one connected training philosophy, rather than a stable simply getting bigger.

Beach training
Just 20 minutes from Flemington Racecourse, Altona Beach is a valued part of our training toolkit. The soft sand and saltwater provide a low-impact environment that supports recovery and conditioning, offering horses a refreshing change of scenery that complements their overall wellbeing.
Training at flemington (hq)
Our Flemington base gives horses direct access to one of Australia's most prestigious racing precincts, with a 32-box stable complex, undercover walker and treadmill supporting daily conditioning, plus immediate access to Flemington's grass gallops, trials and official jump-outs on true, race-standard surfaces.
Weekly grass jump-outs
Weekly grass jump-outs at Flemington give our horses valuable race-simulation experience on true, race-standard turf. These low-pressure trials build fitness, sharpen gate manners and racing instincts, and help build confidence, all in the same environment horses will ultimately compete in on raceday. These grass jump-outs come at no additional cost to owners, with no nomination fees or floating costs.
CENTRAL LOCATION FOR OWNERS
Being based at Flemington puts our owners right at the heart of Melbourne's racing scene, making it easy to visit trackwork, attend trials and connect with the team in person. Its central location means catching up with your horse is simple, convenient and always close to home.

Ballarat
Turf Club

In 2021 McEvoy Racing opened their fully custom-designed complex directly on course at the Ballarat Turf Club , built from the ground up with one objective: giving every horse in the stable the best possible environment to thrive.

Being on course gives every horse direct access to the outstanding tracks and facilities of the Ballarat Turf Club without ever leaving the precinct. There is no better preparation for the racing environment than training in it every single day.

The complex is purpose-built with the welfare and performance of the horse at the centre of every design decision. From the polytrack walker surfaces to the Olympic-standard swimming pool, every element serves the horse first.

TRACK VARIETY
McEvoy Racing's athletes train across a genuine mix of surfaces: the 2400m grass Course Proper, 1900m Polytrack, 1400m uphill synthetic track, 1550m inside grass track, plus dual sand tracks (1620m and 1600m). This range allows us to tailor each horse's work to their fitness stage, soundness or recovery needs, supporting smarter, more individualised conditioning than a single-surface facility allows.
Location
Set at an elevation of approximately 450 metres above sea level, Ballarat's undulating country terrain offers genuine hill and uphill conditioning work found nowhere in Melbourne's metro training tracks. This higher elevation also brings a cooler climate, typically 3-5°C below Melbourne, supporting recovery, while the natural terrain builds strength and stamina the way flat, artificial hill work simply can't replicate.
Large open stables
Just as elite athletes rely on quality rest to perform at their best, so too do our horses. Our large, open stables give horses the extra space to move, relax and recover freely, because maximising downtime is just as important as maximising work on the track.
Spelling & Pretraining
Spelling and pre-training are essential to a racehorse's long-term success. Spelling allows horses to rest, recover and avoid burnout after a hard campaign, while pre-training builds a solid foundation; introducing young or returning horses to routine and light work before entering full preparation. At McEvoy Racing, we prioritise this balance, ensuring every horse has the time and support to return to peak condition.

Every horse in our care benefits from 365 days of dedicated attention, world-class facilities and the rare advantage of beach training. It’s a winning formula, one that’s helped Tony and Calvin post a 2025/26 Victorian strike rate of 20.5%, the highest of any stable in the Top 20.
